Our Story – Why Buy a Ceramic Knife Sharpener?
Being in the kitchen, preparing a great meal, is what we like to do best on a Sunday. We know that it is not everyone’s idea of fun. We realise that for many preparing something quick but tasty and then getting back out of the kitchen as soon as possible, is the preferred option.
Either way, we have found that whether preparing and cooking food is enjoyable or not is driven by the tools that we are working with. Many tools when treated with a little care will last a lifetime. I am still using my grandmother’s rolling pin that is almost twice as old as me.
Knives however need a little maintenance too, as they have a habit of going blunt over time. When a knife is blunt, using it is much less enjoyable and potentially even dangerous as the risk of slipping and cutting yourself is greatly increased.
The inspiration for ceramicknifesharpener.co.uk was born out of a search around the town in the pouring rain for a knife sharpener. A couple of months earlier we were lucky enough to receive a very nice set as a gift from a close friend. Initially they were a dream to use but over time, without maintenance, becoming less so.
After wandering around not knowing where to look, we did eventually stumble across an old fashioned ironmongers, and were able to buy the rather trendy looking red and black Global Shinkansen Ceramic Knife Sharpener. (Trendy that is compared to a sharpening stone which was the only other option available)
Having used it many times, we can report that it was worth the trudge around the shops in the rain. What we didn’t realise until we got home and read the instructions was that before using a ceramic knife sharpener, you need to add a little water. Considering the rain, we had to laugh. Once ready, just drawing the knife through one of the slots a few times returns the knife to its original sharpness.
We are now in the habit of sharpening the knives before every use, and our Sundays are once again frustration free.
